A Level Computer Science was in the vanguard of the movement to develop more demanding A Level courses and exams. It was designed to replace the less academic IT and Computing type A Level Courses. Studying Computer Science at A Level means that it is possible to consider A Level combinations such as Maths, Physics and Computer Science, or, for the more ambitious Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Computer Science. The skills learned in studying A Level Computer Science can prove very advantageous when doing engineering or physics degree courses as these involve extensive use of computer programs such as Matlab and Simulink for modeling, signal and image processing and mathematical problem solving. Another consideration is that computer programming skills learned at this level can be used to earn money as a software programmer e.g. during holidays, or part time in the evenings.
